Known for

A clubhouse for the neighborhood

The hotel calls itself Waikiki’s neighborhood clubhouse, and its bars back it up: The Lei Stand moved here from Chinatown in 2025, 855-ALOHA does retro local food, and every venue welcomes visitors as well as guests.

02

Rooms

Highgate reopened the building in June 2024 as a 179-room hotel with mid-century furniture, light woods and sliders to private lanais in most rooms. The rooms are compact: a Standard Queen is 168 to 192 square feet and a Standard King 202 to 238, while the Deluxe and Premium rooms, 278 to 383 square feet, all have balconies. Every room type sleeps two. It opened as Oahu’s first adults-only hotel; its current site lists no age limit, so ask the hotel if that matters to you.

03

Suites

The Junior Suite has two queens, a sofa bed and a balcony in 506 square feet and sleeps six. The Two Bedroom Suite is two connecting rooms, 878 square feet in all, each with its own balcony, sleeping eight.

04

The Backyard

The second-floor Backyard Pool & Bar is a heated wading pool ringed with daybeds and deck chairs, open 8 AM to 10 PM, with Japanese-Hawaiian bites such as poke bowls and karaage from 11 AM to 5 PM and 20% off during the 3 to 5 PM pau hana. Daybeds and cabanas can be reserved; prices are not published. Guests get free poolside yoga and a floating sound bath, a free beginner hula class on Thursdays at 5:30 PM, and DJ house parties Friday and Saturday from 8 PM to midnight.

05

What the $48 Fee Covers

Wi-Fi, in-room Big Island Roasters coffee, 15% off dining, discounted cabanas, the FIT Waikīkī gym inside the ʻAlohilani, poolside classes, and three daily credits at Beach Candy for chairs, umbrellas, a bodyboard or a two-hour paddleboard. Cruiser bikes with a helmet and lock are free from 7 AM to 7 PM. The hotel’s All-In Clubhouse offer, bookable through Dec 18, 2026, drops the fee; compare it with Waikiki resort fees, hotel by hotel.

06

Getting to the Beach

Cross Kuhio and Kalakaua and you are at Kuhio Beach by the Duke Kahanamoku statue in about 7 minutes, with city lifeguard tower 2B on that stretch. The walled swim basin there is usually calm and shallow, and the state plans sand work on it starting in fall 2026. Beach Candy, where the gear credits are redeemed, is at the Twin Fin at 2570 Kalakaua, about 10 to 13 minutes on foot, and rentals go out only until 3 PM. Waikiki’s beaches, section by section covers the rest.

855-ALOHA, The Lei Stand and Le Petit Chef

855-ALOHA, off the lobby, does island comfort food with Japanese, Chinese and Korean influences, breakfast daily from 7 AM and dinner Tuesday to Saturday. The Lei Stand, the Chinatown cocktail bar that moved here in 2025, pours from 5 PM until 11, or midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, first come, first served. Le Petit Chef is a projection-mapped dinner show; book ahead. Non-guests dining at 855-ALOHA or The Lei Stand get three hours of free valet. For more drinks, see the best mai tais on Oahu.

08

Around Romer House

International Market Place is about 4 minutes away, the Royal Hawaiian Center 7, and the Honolulu Zoo about 17. Valet is the only parking, so see our Waikiki parking guide before you rent. Comparing? The White Sands is a block over with a $30 fee and a full pool, the Laylow is the Marriott option on Kuhio, and our boutique hotels guide lines up the rest.

Could be better

The pool is a wading pool. The Backyard is the hotel’s centerpiece, but its own pages call the water a heated wading pool: it is for cooling off between daybed sessions, not for laps. Swimmers will use Kuhio Beach, seven minutes away.

09

Consider Instead

  • Hyatt Regency Waikiki is the family pick: the walled, shallow Kuhio Beach swim basin is across the street, and beach toys and daily hula and ukulele classes come with the resort fee.
  • Wayfinder Waikiki suits swimmers: a 70-foot saltwater pool with a hot tub, a $37 amenity fee and $49 valet, the same 7 minutes from Kuhio Beach.
  • White Sands Hotel gives more room for a lower fee: standard rooms of 316 square feet, a private lanai on every one, and a $30 amenity fee that covers beach chairs and boogie boards.
10

Tips Before You Book Romer House Waikiki

  • Price the Clubhouse offer. Its package drops the resort fee and adds breakfast for two.
  • Get beach gear before 3 PM. Beach Candy stops handing out rentals then.
  • Take a free bike. Cruisers come with a helmet and lock from 7 AM to 7 PM.
  • Plan dinner for Tuesday to Saturday. 855-ALOHA serves dinner only on those nights.
  • Stay in on Thursday. The free beginner hula class starts at 5:30 PM in the Backyard.
  • Ask for a room off the pool on weekends. The DJs play until midnight Friday and Saturday.
