Waikiki Fireworks: Where to Watch

Every Friday at 7:45 p.m., Hilton Hawaiian Village sets off fireworks just off its beach at the ʻEwa end of Waikīkī. Watching from the sand is free. The question is where to stand, how to get there from the middle of Waikīkī, and where to leave the car, so this guide answers those, plus the boats that watch from the water and the other fireworks nights on the calendar.

Quick Answer

Fridays at 7:45 p.m., off the beach in front of Hilton Hawaiian Village, 2005 Kalia Road. Free from the sand. Watch from Duke Kahanamoku Beach for the front row, or Fort DeRussy and Magic Island for more room. From central Waikīkī, walk about 25 minutes or ride TheBus W Line along Ala Moana Boulevard. In summer the hotel has moved the start to 8 p.m.

When the Waikiki Fireworks Start

Hilton Hawaiian Village runs the show every Friday at 7:45 p.m. Its events page, its Friday fireworks page (edited September 21), its activities page and its in-stay guest directory all give that time. The hotel says the fireworks go up “right off shore” of its beachfront.

Summer is the exception. In 2025 the hotel pushed the start to 8 p.m. from June 6 through the end of August (KHON) and went back to 7:45 on September 5 (KITV); in late June, twilight lasts until about 7:40. If you are here June to August, check the events page that week. In the fall, twilight is over by about 6:25 (U.S. Naval Observatory), well before the show.

Watching from the beach costs nothing (KITV). If you want dinner with it, the hotel’s Huli Huli Chicken cookout on the Village Green runs 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Fridays, and its Friday luau ends with the fireworks; both are paid. Our Hilton Hawaiian Village review covers staying there.

Where to Watch, From Front Row to Across the Harbor

The hotel says the show can be seen “from the beach and from numerous vantage points around Hilton Hawaiian Village” (Hilton), and the sand in front of it is the obvious spot. Beat of Hawaii, a local travel site, adds that the fireworks launch from the Waikīkī side of Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon, which is closed off during the show, so the lagoon’s ʻEwa side and Fort DeRussy Beach next door are the other close-in spots (Beat of Hawaii, 2024).

For more elbow room, cross the Ala Wai harbor. KITV and the Star-Advertiser both report the show is visible from Ala Moana Beach Park (KITV; Star-Advertiser), and Magic Island reopened on September 9 after the Hurricane Lowell cleanup (City). The park is open 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Parks and Recreation). Distances in the table are our own walking routes. Our Waikīkī beaches guide walks the shore section by section, and the Waikiki map has every spot pinned.

Watch From the Water

Several boats time a Friday sail to the show. Pink Sails Waikiki runs a fireworks catamaran from 1 Holomoana Street, across from the Prince Waikiki at the Ala Wai harbor, about 6:30 to 8 p.m., with a cash bar and no hotel pickup (operator). For dinner on the water, the Star of Honolulu leaves Aloha Tower downtown at 5:30 p.m. and, in its own words, stays out an extra hour on Fridays for “an opportunity to see the Waikiki fireworks” (Star of Honolulu); its card is further down. For more sunset and fireworks sails, including the ones that board right off the sand, see our Waikiki sunset cruise guide.

Getting There: Walk, Bus or Park

Walking: by our count it is about 1.2 miles, roughly 25 minutes, from the Duke Kahanamoku statue on Kalākaua Avenue to the lagoon, and about 1.5 miles, 33 minutes, from Kalākaua and Kapahulu. The walk back after the show is the same.

TheBus: the W Line runs along Kūhiō Avenue toward the airport and stops on Ala Moana Boulevard beside the Hilton, about a four-minute ride from Kūhiō and Dukes Lane, every 15 to 20 minutes in the early evening; return buses run on the same pattern after the show (TheBus schedule data). A ride is $3.25 cash, exact change, or $3 for a two-hour pass on a HOLO card (TheBus fares).

Parking:

LotRate as postedNotes
Hale Koa garage and Saratoga Lot$10 first hour, $5 each added half hour, $100 max for 24 hoursNext door to the Hilton; no cash (Hale Koa)
Ala Wai Boat Harbor lot$1 per hourCard only at the pay stations (Secure Parking)
Hilton Hawaiian Village garage$72.25 per day self-parkNo hourly public rate posted (Hilton)

Three hours at the Hale Koa comes to $30 by our math. Our Waikiki parking guide covers the rest of the neighborhood.

When the Show Is Called Off

Hilton publishes no cancellation policy, but the local press has recorded the reasons. Rain canceled the show on May 16, 2025 (KITV). The hotel suspended it on January 3, 2025 out of respect for those affected by the New Year’s Eve fireworks explosion in Aliamanu, and brought it back a week later (KHON). In 2017 one Friday was lost to technical issues and the week before to high water from a king tide (Star-Advertiser).

If the sky looks doubtful, check the hotel’s events page or call the front desk at (808) 949-4321. Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, and the hotel has not said whether the show runs; our Honolulu City Lights guide covers the rest of December.

Other Fireworks on Oahu This Year

Halloween: October 30 is a Friday, so the regular show lands on the Halloween weekend; our Halloween in Waikiki guide has the rest of that night.

New Year’s Eve: Waikīkī gets its own midnight show, fired from a barge offshore (Waikiki Business Improvement District). We will cover that night in its own guide.

Honolulu Festival: the 31st festival runs March 5 to 7, 2027, and has closed on its Sunday night with Nagaoka fireworks over Waikīkī (Honolulu Festival). The 2026 fireworks were canceled for weather; check the festival site for the 2027 time.

Fourth of July: in 2026 the Waikiki Improvement Association put on a 10-minute show at 8:30 p.m. from a barge off Waikīkī Beach, visible along the whole shoreline (WIA). The 2027 show has not been announced. For everything else to do after dark, see things to do in Waikiki.

Waikiki Fireworks: Questions

What time are the Waikiki fireworks?

Fridays at 7:45 p.m., at Hilton Hawaiian Village. In summer the hotel has moved the start to 8 p.m. (June 6 to the end of August in 2025).

Are there fireworks in Waikiki tonight?

Only on Fridays, weather permitting, plus special nights like New Year’s Eve, the Fourth of July and the Honolulu Festival.

Where is the best place to watch the Friday fireworks?

Duke Kahanamoku Beach in front of Hilton Hawaiian Village is the front row. Fort DeRussy Beach next door and Magic Island across the harbor have more room.

Are the Hilton Hawaiian Village fireworks free?

Yes, to watch from the beach. The hotel sells dinner and luau packages with a view.

Are the Waikiki fireworks ever canceled?

Yes. Rain canceled the show on May 16, 2025, the hotel suspended it the first Friday of 2025 out of respect after the New Year’s Eve explosion in Aliamanu, and high water and technical issues stopped it in 2017.

Can you watch the Waikiki fireworks from a boat?

Yes. Several catamarans sail on Friday evenings for the show, from the Ala Wai harbor and from the beach, and the Star of Honolulu’s Friday dinner cruise stays out late for it.

How do you get to the Waikiki fireworks by bus?

Take TheBus W Line from Kūhiō Avenue toward the airport to Ala Moana Boulevard by the Hilton, about four minutes. Buses run every 15 to 20 minutes in the early evening.
