Hilton Hawaiian Village Review
Twenty-two acres, five towers, five pools and a lagoon at the west end of Waikiki: a small resort town, and the size is what to weigh before you book.

The 30-second verdict
Book Hilton Hawaiian Village for kids, pools and a calm lagoon on the sand. Skip it if you want quiet, a short walk to central Waikiki, or a bill you can price in advance: Hilton does not publish the resort fee.

Known for
Scale
No other Waikiki hotel comes close on size: 22 acres, five hotel towers, five pools, a saltwater lagoon, its own pier and 18 places to eat. It opened as the Hawaiian Village Hotel in 1956.
Which Tower to Book
The hotel side is five towers: Rainbow, Tapa, Diamond Head, Kalia and Aliʻi. The Rainbow Tower is the one with the mosaic on its side, next to the Super Pool and the lagoon. Tapa sits beside the Tapa Pool, and Kalia holds the spa and the adult pool. The Aliʻi Tower, the private-check-in tower with its own pool, is closed for renovation and reopens in spring 2027.

Suites and Kitchens
Hotel suites have no kitchen. For one, book the Hilton Grand Vacations side of the property: Kalia Suites (floors 12 to 18 of the Kalia Tower), the Grand Islander and the Grand Waikikian share the grounds but book through Hilton Grand Vacations, not the hotel.
Five Pools and the Slides
The Super Pool is the big one by the Rainbow Tower, open 8 AM to 9 PM, with the shallow Keiki Pool beside it for small children. Two waterslides take turns: the outdoor slide runs 11 AM to 2 PM and the lava-tube slide 2 PM to 5 PM. The Paradise Pool (9 AM to 6 PM) and the Tapa Pool (9 AM to 9 PM) spread the crowd out, and the Kalia Adult Pool, on the fourth floor of the Kalia Tower, is for guests 18 and over, 9 AM to 8 PM. Cabanas at the Super and Paradise pools can be reserved with your room, up to a year ahead.

Mandara Spa
Mandara Spa, in the Kalia Tower, is the hotel’s own spa and, by its account, the largest in Waikiki. Treatments are Balinese-style and Hawaiian lomilomi, with couples rooms, a salon and a sauna.
The Beach and the Lagoon
The hotel fronts Duke Kahanamoku Beach and a saltwater lagoon of about five acres, which the hotel invites guests to swim in. Paddleboards, kayaks and water tricycles rent on its edge. There is no city lifeguard tower on this stretch; the first one, 2A, is farther east at the Moana Surfrider. Our guide to Waikiki’s beaches compares every stretch.

Fireworks and Free Classes
Every Friday at 7:45 PM, fireworks go off over the water in front of the hotel, free to watch from the beach or the Great Lawn. The resort charge covers the daytime classes: kukui nut bracelets and keiki crafts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, ukulele, hula and morning exercise. The hotel’s current site lists no kids club, so plan on the pools and the classes rather than drop-off care. For families weighing other resorts, see our best hotels on Oahu for families.

Restaurants and Bars
Hilton Hawaiian Village counts 18 places to eat and drink on its 22 acres, so most guests can go a whole stay without leaving for a meal. Bali Oceanfront is the one to book; the rest run from a beachfront buffet to pool bars and a lobby patisserie.

Bali OceanfrontIsland seafood and steaks
Bali Oceanfront, on the mezzanine of the Rainbow Tower, is the resort’s sit-down restaurant, cooking with local farmers, fishers and ranchers above Waikiki Beach. Breakfast runs Wednesday to Sunday, 7 to 11 AM (ube waffles, mahi mahi benedict); dinner Tuesday to Saturday, 5 to 9 PM, with pan-roasted Kona kampachi, miso bouillabaisse and Angus steaks. Most dinner mains are $45 to $79, and a three-course prix fixe is $69 if you sit down between 5 and 6 PM (checked Sep 29, 2026). A child 12 or younger eats free alongside each adult entree. Book on OpenTable or at 808-941-2254, and plan Sunday and Monday dinners elsewhere.
Rainbow LanaiBeachfront buffet and island plates
Rainbow Lanai is the open-air spot on the beach at the foot of the Rainbow Tower, and the easy breakfast. The buffet runs 6:30 to 10:30 AM daily at $49 for adults, $24 for children 12 and under and free for 4 and under (Sep 2026): buttermilk pancakes with coconut syrup, omelets made to order and Kona coffee. Lunch (11 AM to 5 PM) and dinner (5 to 9 PM) go a la carte, with a smoked marlin dip, an ahi poke bowl and, at night, roasted prime rib while it lasts. It suits families who want the ocean at breakfast. Reserve at 808-949-4321.
Tapa BarBar and grill
Tapa Bar, steps from the Tapa Pool in the Tapa Tower, is the resort’s evening hangout: open 11 AM to 11 PM daily, with local bands 7 to 10 PM every night. The kitchen smashes burgers on an 800-degree plancha (the Hellfire Smash with griddled habaneros is $20) and bakes pizzas from $25; the Village Mai Tai is $20. Hilton Honors members get happy hour from 3 to 5 PM, so sign up before you arrive. It suits friends and families with teenagers who want dinner and music in one stop.
Hau Tree BarPool bar
Hau Tree Bar sits on the beach side of the Super Pool. It pours from 10 AM to 8 PM Sunday to Thursday and to 9 PM on Friday and Saturday, with food from 11 AM to 8 PM: an ahi poke bowl ($26), Pacific fish tacos and $6 Spam musubi. Cocktails run $15 to $20. It is the lunch stop for families on the slides. For a pool lunch away from them, Lagoon Grill at the Paradise Pool serves burgers, hot dogs and salads, 11 AM to 5 PM.
Chee Hoo Patisserie and Wiki Wiki MarketGrab and go
Chee Hoo Patisserie, in the main lobby, bakes French pastries under executive pastry chef Urielle, who came from France by way of Tahiti, and adds matcha drinks and Dole Whip, 6 AM to 6 PM. Later, Wiki Wiki Market in the Tapa Tower has sandwiches, pizza, ham and cheese croissants and shave ice until 11 PM, and its Wiki Wiki To You service takes mobile orders. The Rainbow Bazaar adds Fresco Italian, CJ’s New York-Style Deli, Doraku sushi and Aoki Teppanyaki. The ticketed Waikiki Starlight Luau runs on the Great Lawn; compare it in the best luaus on Oahu.
Around Hilton Hawaiian Village
The hotel is at the far west end of Waikiki, next to Fort DeRussy Park. Ala Moana Center is 15 to 20 minutes on foot the other way, and central Kalakaua Avenue about 15 minutes east, so dinner in central Waikiki is a walk, while the beach is at the door. Halepuna Waikiki and Halekulani are the quieter neighbors near Kalia Road. The airport is about 25 minutes by car without traffic; our airport to Waikiki guide covers the options. Rent a car only for day trips (renting a car on Oahu); the Waikiki Map shows what is walkable. Weighing the west side instead? Read Ko Olina vs Waikiki.

Could be better
Hilton charges a daily resort fee here and lists what it covers (WiFi, the cultural classes, morning exercise, the movie night), but neither its reservation-policies page nor its resort-charge page says what it costs, as of September 26, 2026. At the biggest hotel in Waikiki, with parking already at $72.25 a night, the amount belongs on the page.
Consider Instead
- Sheraton Waikiki puts a family pool with a 70-foot slide and on-site child care in central Waikiki, with a published $52 resort fee. The trade is the thin beach out front.
- Halekulani is the pick for couples who want quiet on the same west end of Waikiki: no resort fee, and La Mer, Orchids and House Without A Key on property.
- Prince Waikiki is about 8 minutes on foot from the Hilton lagoon, with a published $45 resort charge, an ocean view from every room and a 16-and-up infinity pool. It suits couples who can do without a beach at the door.
Tips Before You Book Hilton Hawaiian Village
- Pick the Rainbow Tower for the lagoon. It sits between the lagoon and the Super Pool.
- Use the adult pool. The Kalia Adult Pool, fourth floor of the Kalia Tower, is 18 and over.
- Book a cabana with the room. Super and Paradise pool cabanas go up to a year ahead.
- Want a kitchen? Book Kalia Suites, the Grand Islander or the Grand Waikikian through Hilton Grand Vacations.
- Friday is fireworks night. Find a spot on the beach or the Great Lawn before 7:45 PM.
