The 30-second verdict
Book Halepuna for Halekulani’s standards in a smaller building with no resort fee, and plan on a short walk to the beach. Skip it if you want a beachfront room, a kids club, or Halekulani’s pool, which Halepuna guests cannot use.

Known for
Halekulani, one block back
Halepuna is run by the Halekulani Corporation and faces Halekulani across the street. It carries the SpaHalekulani amenity line and the first Halekulani Bakery, and like its sister it charges no resort fee.
Halepuna Rooms
Halepuna has 284 rooms and four suites in the tower that was the Waikiki Parc Hotel. Standard and Mountain View rooms are 309 square feet with a viewing balcony. Ocean View and Deluxe Ocean View rooms are 335 square feet with a full balcony. Every room has a deep soaking tub, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, free WiFi and SpaHalekulani bath products. Beds come as a king, a queen, twins or doubles.
The Four Suites
All four suites are one-bedroom, 619 to 729 square feet, on the 21st floor and up, with two lanai and a sofa bed. The Pohuehue Suite is the signature room: the Grand Ocean Suite on the top floor. The ʻApuakehau Suite is the accessible one, with wider doorways, a roll-in shower and grab bars. Suite guests get one VIP cabana reservation at the pool.
The Eighth-Floor Pool
There is one pool, on the eighth floor: the Vitality Pool, an infinity-edge lap pool with a hot tub and shaded loungers, open 8 AM to sunset. Cabanas are booked through Guest Relations. The garden next to it, with a reflexology path, stays open until 8 PM. The hotel publishes no age limit for the pool. Halekulani’s pool across the street is not open to Halepuna guests, and the FAQ says so in those words.
Spa
Halepuna has no spa of its own. Guests book SpaHalekulani spa and salon treatments between 9 AM and 6 PM, and the hotel lists in-suite services as well.
Getting to the Beach
Halepuna is not on the sand; its own fact sheet says steps away. The closest beach is Grey’s Beach (Kawehewehe), in front of Halekulani, the thinnest strip of sand in Waikiki, with no city lifeguard tower. The nearest tower is 2A at the Moana Surfrider. For a full beach day, walk west to Fort DeRussy Beach Park, where the sand is wider. See our guide to Waikiki’s beaches. The hotel hands every guest an insulated beach bag with two towels.

Museums, Surf and the Gym
Show your room key for free admission to Bishop Museum, the Honolulu Museum of Art and Mānoa Heritage Center. The 24-hour fitness studio on the eighth floor runs Technogym equipment. Guest Relations books surf and stand-up paddle lessons through SurfHalekulani; to compare other schools, see our Waikiki surf lessons comparison. There is no kids club.
Restaurants and Bars
Halepuna has two restaurants of its own, both from Chef Vikram Garg, plus the Halekulani Bakery and a pool bar; the restaurants and bakery are open to non-guests. For a bigger night out, guests cross the street to Halekulani.

UMI by Vikram GargSeafood-led fine dining
UMI by Vikram Garg is the lobby restaurant Chef Garg opened in April 2023, after earlier years at Halekulani, with a menu built around what he calls the ocean’s harvest. Breakfast runs daily from 7 to 11 a.m.; dinner is Wednesday to Sunday, 5:30 p.m. to an 8:30 last seating. Start with the lobster bisque in coconut and kaffir lime cream ($22), then the Goan-style seafood curry ($59) or the butter-poached lobster ($68). The four-course Waikiki tasting menu is $110 and the seven-course UMI menu $175, as of Sep 2026. Book on OpenTable. It suits a couple’s dinner without crossing the street. Tip: parties of five or more pay a 20% service charge.
TernsShared plates and curries
Terns takes over the bakery terrace in the evening: an open-air room for shared plates and cocktails, also from Chef Garg. It serves dinner Wednesday to Sunday, 5 to 9 p.m. Half the menu is curries, such as Old Delhi butter chicken ($32) and lamb shank rogan josh ($42); the other half runs to vodka-battered fish and chips ($36) and a hamachi ceviche ($26). A slice of Halekulani’s coconut cake is $18, prices as of Sep 2026. Dress is resort casual; call (808) 744-4244. It suits friends sharing plates. Tip: carafes of the sommelier’s daily wine are $12.
Halekulani BakeryBakery and coffee bar
Halekulani Bakery, beside the Halepuna lobby, was the first Halekulani food outlet outside the main hotel. It opens daily from 6:30 to 11:30 a.m. for artisan breads, pastries, savory bites, specialty coffee and the Halekulani coconut cake, with a seasonal Haupia Matcha Latte and a Strawberry Li Hing Mui Lemonade. It suits an early start before the beach. Tip: customers get the first hour of parking validated in the Kalia Road lot.
Across the street at HalekulaniLa Mer, Orchids, House Without a Key
Halekulani is directly across the street. La Mer serves French set menus Tuesday to Saturday, $265 and $340 as of Sep 2026, with a collared-shirt dress code. Orchids’ Sunday brunch is $125 an adult, and House Without a Key has Hawaiian music from 5:30 p.m. and hula from 6:30 nightly, with the lawn walk-in only. Book La Mer, Orchids or dinner at House Without a Key at (808) 518-2019. No Halepuna page lists a guest perk at any of them, so book as any diner would.
Around Halepuna
Halepuna sits at the Fort DeRussy end of Waikiki, the quieter west side. Fort DeRussy Beach Park is west, and the Royal Hawaiian Center and International Market Place are east along Kalakaua Avenue. The airport is 11 miles away, about 35 minutes by car; our airport to Waikiki guide compares the shuttle, bus and rideshare. You do not need a car in Waikiki, and at $60 a day to park, rent one only for the days you leave town (see renting a car on Oahu). Could be better
Halepuna sells the Halekulani connection, and the connection stops at the pool. Halepuna’s FAQ says Halekulani’s pool is not available to Halepuna guests, so a swim here means the eighth-floor lap pool or the walk to the beach, not the pool across the street.
Consider Instead
- Halekulani is across the street for travelers who want a beachfront room, the Orchid Pool and La Mer, also with no resort fee. Parking there is $68 a night.
- Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club is the pick for groups: suites that sleep up to eight and no amenity fee on direct bookings, about 10 minutes on foot from the beach.
- Kahala Hotel & Resort is the no-resort-fee pick with its own beach: a quiet 800-foot beach and every room category listed at 550 square feet, 10 to 15 minutes by car from Waikiki.
Tips Before You Book Halepuna
- Bring the room key to the museums. It gets you into Bishop Museum, the Honolulu Museum of Art and Mānoa Heritage Center free.
- Get coffee downstairs. Halekulani Bakery validates one hour of parking for customers.
- Book an Ocean View room for the balcony. Standard rooms get a viewing balcony only.
- A child stays free. One child 17 or under sharing existing bedding costs nothing extra, and cribs are free.
- Airport transfers cost extra. Guest Relations arranges them; call 808-921-7272.
