Waikiki Resort Fees: What Every Hotel Charges in 2026
Most Waikiki hotels add a resort fee of $30 to $65 a night to the room rate, and Hawaii taxes it like the room. Here is what 29 Waikiki-area hotels charge, what the fee covers, what parking adds, and the handful of hotels that charge none, checked on each hotel’s own site in September 2026.

Every Waikiki Hotel’s Resort Fee, Compared
Every figure below comes from the hotel’s own website or its brand’s official policy page, checked September 25 and 26, 2026. Where a hotel says tax is extra, so do we. Where a hotel charges a fee but doesn’t post the amount, or its site blocked our check, the table says so instead of repeating a number from a fee-tracking site.

A few names people search for most: the Hyatt Regency Waikiki resort fee is $55 a night and the Sheraton Waikiki resort fee is $52 plus tax (both subject to change, so confirm at booking), and the Prince Waikiki resort fee is a $45 “resort charge” plus tax. The Hilton Hawaiian Village resort fee isn’t posted on the resort’s own site, and we couldn’t verify the Waikiki Beach Marriott resort fee; ask for both when you book. For how these hotels compare beyond the fee, see our best Waikiki hotels at every budget.
Three of the four hotels in the no-fee group, Halekulani, the Hale Koa and the Ritz-Carlton Residences, sit at the west end of Waikiki near Fort DeRussy.

What the Resort Fee Actually Buys
Read the fine print at enough Waikiki hotels and the same short list keeps turning up:
- Wi-Fi. On nearly every list, often capped at two to four devices per room.
- Beach and pool gear. Towels almost everywhere; chairs and boogie boards at White Sands; rental credits at ʻAlohilani and Park Shore.
- Phone calls. Local and long-distance minutes, left over from before everyone carried a cell phone.
- Water and coffee. Reusable bottles and refill stations, in-room coffee and tea.
- Classes and discounts. Lei making, hula and ukulele lessons, yoga, and shopping or dining discounts.
- A few real extras. Free Bishop Museum admission at the Outrigger-run Beachcomber and Waikiki Paradise; the Honolulu Museum of Art and Bishop Museum at Prince Waikiki; a $5 daily food and drink credit at Hyatt Place; valet for one car at Aston Waikiki Beach Tower.
The honest read: most of the fee pays for Wi-Fi and towels you would expect at that room rate. The classes, museum passes and rental credits are worth something only if you use them, so look at the list before you book and plan a morning around what’s included.
Parking is almost never in the fee. At most of these hotels, overnight parking adds about $40 to $93.19 a night on top of it. Our guide to parking in Waikiki has public garages and hotel rates side by side.
The Tax on Top of the Resort Fee
The resort fee is taxed exactly like the room. Hawaii’s Department of Taxation says so in its guide to the Transient Accommodations Tax: “Gross rental proceeds also include any mandatory resort fees charged for use of the transient accommodation’s property, services, or amenities.”
On Oahu that means 18.712%, which Halekulani’s FAQ breaks down as “General Excise Tax at 4.712%, Hawaii Transient Accommodations Tax at 11% and Oahu Transient Accommodations Tax at 3%.” The state’s share rose to 11% on January 1, 2026, per the Department of Taxation.
Example: one night, before parking
| Room rate (a hypothetical $300) | $300.00 |
| Resort fee | $50.00 |
| Tax at 18.712% on both | $65.49 |
| What you pay | $415.49 |
The $300 room rate is only an example. The $50 fee alone costs $59.36 a night after tax, or $296.78 over five nights.
One exception: the Hale Koa Hotel, on the military’s Fort DeRussy land, says “there are no taxes or daily resort fee incurred with room rate.” It is open only to military and DoD-affiliated guests.
The FTC Rule: The Fee Has to Be in the Price
Since May 12, 2025, a federal rule has changed how hotels can quote a room. The FTC’s Rule on Unfair or Deceptive Fees covers hotels and short-term rentals, and it requires the price you are shown to include every mandatory fee. The FTC’s own FAQ uses this example: “A resort charges a nightly rate of $199, plus a mandatory resort fee of $39 per day. The required resort fee must be included in the total price.”
Taxes and truly optional add-ons are the exceptions: they can be added later, as long as they are disclosed before you pay. So the rate you see for a Waikiki hotel should already include its resort fee, and the 18.712% tax may still arrive at checkout. Compare hotels on that total, not the room rate you remember from an old booking.
How to Avoid the Resort Fee in Waikiki
Five Ways
Pay Less, or No, Resort Fee
- Book a hotel that charges none. Halekulani says it plainly: “There are no resort fees at Halekulani.” Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club advertises “NO amenity fees” when you book direct. The Hale Koa charges none, but only military and DoD-affiliated guests can stay.
- Use points at a Hilton or Hyatt. Both programs waive the fee on all-points award nights (details below). Marriott and IHG don’t.
- Pick a lower-fee hotel. White Sands ($30), Holiday Inn Express ($33), OUTRIGGER Waikiki Paradise ($40), Waikiki Beachcomber and Hyatt Place ($42) all come in well under the $50 to $55 beachfront band.
- Count what’s bundled. Aston Waikiki Beach Tower’s $65 fee covers valet for one car, and ʻAlohilani’s fee upgrades your first night of self-parking to valet. If you are driving, that changes the math.
- Compare the all-in price. A $300 room with no fee beats a $260 room with a $52 fee once tax lands on both.
Loyalty points are the lever most people miss. Here is how each big program treats the resort fee on an award night:
Hilton Honors: fee waived
Hilton’s Honors terms say that at hotels with resort fees, members on “Reward stays booked using all Points or using a promotional free night reward certificate” “will not pay resort fees.”
In Waikiki: Hilton Hawaiian Village, Hilton Waikiki Beach.
World of Hyatt: fee waived
Hyatt’s awards FAQ says resort and destination fees are waived on free nights booked with points or a free night award. A Points + Cash stay pays the fee like a paid one.
In Waikiki: Hyatt Regency, Hyatt Centric, Hyatt Place (a destination fee).
Marriott Bonvoy: fee charged
Marriott’s Free Night Award page says you are responsible for “payment of mandatory resort fees at properties where resort fees are charged.” Points cover the room, not the fee.
In Waikiki: the Royal Hawaiian, Moana Surfrider, Sheraton Waikiki, Waikiki Beach Marriott.
IHG One Rewards: fee charged
IHG’s member terms say resort fees are not waived on Reward Night stays, whatever your status. Taxes are covered; the fee isn’t.
In Waikiki: Holiday Inn Express Waikiki (a $33 service charge).

Waikiki Resort Fee Questions
Do all Waikiki hotels charge a resort fee?
No. Halekulani and Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club charge none, and the Hale Koa Hotel charges none for the military and DoD-affiliated guests it serves. The Ritz-Carlton Residences lists no resort fee on its own page. Most other Waikiki hotels charge one, from $30 to $65 a night as of September 2026.
How much is the resort fee in Waikiki?
Most of the big beachfront hotels charge $50 to $55 a night plus tax as of September 2026. Smaller hotels run $30 to $45. The highest we found is $65 at Aston Waikiki Beach Tower, which includes valet parking for one car.
Is the resort fee taxed in Hawaii?
Yes. Hawaii’s Department of Taxation counts mandatory resort fees as part of the taxable room revenue, so the same 18.712% Oahu rate applies: 11% state TAT, 3% Oahu TAT and 4.712% general excise tax. A $50 fee costs $59.36 a night after tax.
Can I avoid the resort fee with points?
At Hilton and Hyatt, yes: both waive the fee on award nights booked entirely with points, and on free night certificates. Marriott and IHG still charge the resort fee on award stays.
What is the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort fee?
Hilton Hawaiian Village charges a resort charge but does not publish the dollar amount on its own site, so confirm it when you book. The benefits it lists include Wi-Fi for two devices, morning exercise classes, cultural activities and spa and activity discounts. An all-points Hilton Honors stay skips the fee.
Which Waikiki hotel has the lowest resort fee?
White Sands Hotel, at $30 a night plus tax as of September 2026, among hotels that charge one. Holiday Inn Express Waikiki is next at $33.
Can a hotel still leave the resort fee out of the price?
Not legally in the U.S. since May 12, 2025. The FTC’s fee rule requires the total price shown to include any mandatory resort fee. Taxes can still be added later in the booking, as long as they are disclosed before you pay.
Does the resort fee include parking in Waikiki?
Usually not. Parking is a separate nightly charge at most hotels, about $40 to $93.19 a night as of September 2026. Aston Waikiki Beach Tower is the exception: its $65 fee covers valet for one car.
