Safe Trick-or-Treating on Oahu

The City runs a Safe Trick-or-Treating on Skyline this Halloween: five stations from East Kapolei to Kalihi, treats, activities and live music along the way, and a stamp card for keiki. Read To Me International Foundation says it runs 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct 31, after a costume story time it hosts at Hālawa Aloha Stadium Station. Here is how to ride it, what it costs, and where else on Oahu kids can trick-or-treat before and after.

Safe Trick-or-Treating on Skyline, Sat Oct 31

Families ride Skyline in costume and stop at five stations along the line. The City’s event page says each stop has treats, festive activities, live music and prizes. It does not yet list what each station hands out or its hours, which is why the hours below come from Read To Me International Foundation (RTMI), the nonprofit hosting the story time at Hālawa. RTMI lists that story time on Oct 31, and its email says the trick-or-treating follows, from 10 a.m. to noon. As of Oct 20 the City and the Aloha Stadium page both still say “stay tuned” for times, so confirm on the morning.

  • When. Saturday, Oct 31, 10 a.m. to noon, per RTMI.
  • Where. Five Skyline stations, listed below from west to east.
  • Cost. The City lists no event fee, but regular Skyline fares apply, and children 5 and under ride free with a paying adult or guardian.
  • What you need. A HOLO card for every rider over 5, and a costume. Costumes are encouraged.

The Five Stations

  • Kualakaʻi (East Kapolei). 91-3253 Kualakaʻi Parkway. The west end of the line. The City lists no park-and-ride here; several TheBus routes stop at the station.
  • Honouliuli (Hoʻopili). 91-1251 Farrington Highway. A free park-and-ride with 344 stalls. No bus service.
  • Hōʻaeʻae (West Loch). 94-135 Farrington Highway. No park-and-ride listed. It has a bus transit center.
  • Hālawa (Aloha Stadium). 99-232 Kamehameha Highway. The biggest free lot on the line, 590 stalls, and a bus transit center. The completed stamp card goes here.
  • Kahauiki (Kalihi Transit Center). 611 Middle Street. A free park-and-ride with 95 stalls and a bus transit center.

Addresses, parking and bus details are from the City’s stations and parking page, checked Oct 12. Park-and-ride is free for transit riders and limited to 24 hours. For every station on the line, see our Honolulu Skyline guide.

The Stamp Card and the Costume Contest

For an extra challenge, keiki can collect a custom stamp at each of the five stations on the Skyline Halloween Stamp Card, then bring the finished card to Hālawa Aloha Stadium for a chance at a grand prize. Download the card ahead of time or pick one up at any participating station, and keep it when you are done.

The costume contest is online and open to all ages. Post an Instagram photo of your costume on Skyline, tag @HNL.Transit and use #SkylineCostume2026. The City says there is a grand prize and does not describe it further.

Riding It With Kids

  • HOLO card. Skyline takes a HOLO card, not cash. Adults can buy one at the machines in any station. The fare page lists a $3.00 2-Hour Pass and a $7.50 day cap, so a day of hopping between stations tops out at $7.50.
  • Trains. Skyline runs every day, with trains every 10 minutes until 8:30 p.m., per the departure schedule.
  • Where to park. Honouliuli and Hālawa have the two big free lots. Park at one end of your loop and ride to the rest.
  • Treats on the train. Open food and drinks are not allowed on trains; sealed and covered is fine, per the City’s rider rules. Keep treats in their wrappers or in the bag until you step off.
  • Costumes. You are on platforms and escalators with a crowd, so pick a costume your child can see out of and walk in.

Halloween Story Time at Hālawa Station

Read To Me International Foundation, a Hawaiʻi nonprofit that promotes reading aloud to children, hosts a Halloween read-aloud at Hālawa Aloha Stadium Station with Councilmember Radiant Cordero and Fire Inspector Hyrum Nihipali as guest readers. Kids are invited to dress up. RTMI’s events page lists it on Oct 31, and its email says families can head into the Skyline trick-or-treating afterward. Registration is through RTMI. The email gives no start time or price, so check the sign-up page before you go.

After the Train: Aloha Stadium Swap Meet

The City has teamed up with the Aloha Stadium Swap Meet & Marketplace for the day. Keiki who bring their Skyline Halloween keiki coupon can redeem it for a special squishy toy, and adults get free admission. The stadium’s announcement adds that redemption is subject to event-specific terms and availability, and it does not say where the coupon is handed out, so ask at a participating station or check the City’s event page. The Swap Meet runs Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, which makes Oct 31 a Swap Meet day. Questions go to the Swap Meet at 808-486-6704.
