Sheraton Waikiki Review

A 1,636-room tower on the sand in central Waikiki, built around two very different pools: one for kids with a 70-foot slide, one for adults on the edge of the ocean.

The 30-second verdict

Book the Sheraton for the pools and the address: an adults-only infinity pool over the water, a family pool with a slide, and the Royal Hawaiian next door. Skip it for a wide beach, since the sand in front is the thinnest in Waikiki, or for a spa in the building.

Known for

The Edge Infinity Pool

About 130 feet of infinity edge a few feet above the ocean, for guests 16 and over, which Marriott bills as North America’s longest oceanfront infinity pool. It has its own bar and five cabanas.

02

Sheraton Waikiki Rooms

The Sheraton is 31 floors and 1,636 rooms and suites, all renovated in a project that finished in September 2023. Every room has a lanai and a work desk. Views run from City View through Partial Ocean View and Oceanfront to the Diamond Head View Oceanfront rooms, and the hotel says more than 80% of rooms see the ocean.

03

Suites

The Malia and Kai Ocean Suites are one-bedroom; the Malia adds a sofa bed. The Ohana Suite is the family pick: two bedrooms, a king in one and two doubles in the other. The Executive Suite Collection is six two-bedroom suites of 1,055 to 1,232 square feet. There are no kitchens. Guests of the Royal Hawaiian next door share the Helumoa Playground pool.

04

Two Pools, Two Trips

The Helumoa Playground is the family side: two freshwater pools joined by a small kids’ slide, a 70-foot waterslide, two whirlpools and waterfalls. The Edge Infinity Pool is for guests 16 and over, with about 130 feet of edge over the ocean and its own bar, The Edge of Waikiki. Both run 8 AM to 8 PM, both are for registered guests only (no day passes), and neither has a lifeguard. Loungers are free and first come; cabanas open for booking three months ahead, and the hotel does not publish their price.

05

Spa

The Sheraton lists no spa of its own. It sends guests next door to Abhasa Spa at the Royal Hawaiian, which treats in private garden cabanas.

06

The Beach Out Front

The Sheraton sits on Grey’s Beach (Kawehewehe), the most eroded stretch of Waikiki; and a state restoration project targets it. There is no city lifeguard tower here; the nearest is 2A at the Moana Surfrider, to the east. The wider sand starts a few minutes east. Waikiki Beach Services rents chairs and umbrellas from the pool desks, 8 AM to 6 PM, and teaches surf lessons daily; compare schools in our Waikiki surf lessons guide and read the stretch-by-stretch Waikiki beaches guide.

07

Classes, Kids and the Gym

The resort fee covers the daily cultural classes: ribbon lei and haku bracelet making Monday to Saturday, and ukulele lessons in the porte cochere. Poppins Day Care, in Suite 435, takes children from 3 months to 12 years with 24 hours’ notice; the hotel does not list a price, so ask. Sheraton Fitness is open 24 hours. 08

Where to Eat

RumFire is the oceanfront bar and restaurant, open 11 AM to 11 PM, and the sunset seat on this stretch. Hinahina, which opened September 24, 2026, serves breakfast and lunch over the surf from 6:30 AM to 5 PM. Honolulu Coffee sits by the Edge pool, Baskin-Robbins by the family pool, and Lawson Station in the lobby is open until 11 PM (there is no room service). Bonvoy members can charge meals at the Royal Hawaiian’s Mai Tai Bar (see the best mai tais on Oahu), the Moana Surfrider’s Veranda and Beach Bar, and the Princess Kaʻiulani’s Splash Bar to the room.

Around the Sheraton

This is the middle of Waikiki: Royal Hawaiian Center is behind the hotel, and Kuhio Beach and the evening hula show are about 10 minutes east on foot. The hotel puts Diamond Head at 2.3 miles, a 5-minute drive (reserve Diamond Head entry first). Halekulani and Halepuna are the quieter neighbors to the west, and Hilton Hawaiian Village is the bigger resort past them. From the airport it is about 9 miles; see Honolulu airport to Waikiki. At $55 a day to park, rent a car only for the days you leave town (renting a car on Oahu).

Could be better

The Sheraton is on the sand, but the sand is the problem. Grey’s Beach is the thinnest stretch in Waikiki, a state restoration project targets it, and no city lifeguard tower covers it. Plan on the pools and a short walk east.

10

Consider Instead

  • Hilton Hawaiian Village is the bigger family resort: five pools, waterslides and a calm, swimmable lagoon on its own beach. Hilton does not publish its resort fee, and parking runs $72.25 to $93.19 a night.
  • Hyatt Regency Waikiki suits families who care more about calm ocean swimming than a pool slide: the walled Kuhio swim basin, with city lifeguard towers, is across the street, and beach toys come with the $55 resort fee.
  • The Royal Hawaiian is the couples’ pick next door: a guests-only pool on the sand and Azure’s oceanfront dinner, at the same $52 resort fee.

Tips Before You Book Sheraton Waikiki

  • Choose the pool before the room. Helumoa is for kids and the slide; the Edge is 16 and over.
  • Book cabanas three months out. Prices are not published, so ask when you book.
  • Take the free classes. Lei making and ukulele are already in the $52 resort fee.
  • Plan late snacks. There is no room service; Lawson Station in the lobby is open until 11 PM.
  • Book Abhasa ahead. It is the spa the hotel sends guests to, next door at the Royal Hawaiian.
