Dole Plantation Oahu: Tickets, Hours and Who Should Skip It

Dole Plantation sits on Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa, about 40 minutes from Waikīkī, and walking in is free. The train, the maze and the garden tour are the paid parts. Here are Dole’s own prices and hours, how long each attraction takes, how to get there, and who should drive past.

Quick Answer

Admission to the grounds, the store and the Dole Whip counter is free. The three attractions are paid and sold one at a time at the booth. Adults pay $15 for the Pineapple Express train (20 minutes), $10 for the Pineapple Garden Maze (about 40 minutes) and $8.50 for the Plantation Garden Tour (about an hour), or $28 for all three (Dole’s price list, checked Oct 14, 2026). It is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Our verdict: a good stop with children or a sweet tooth, and skippable if you are short on time and have neither.

Dole Plantation Tickets and Prices

Walking in costs nothing. Dole says admission to the grounds is free, along with a pineapple-cutting and chocolate-making demonstration and a fish-feeding pond, and that the only admission charge is for the train, the maze and the garden (Dole). The prices below are Dole’s, as posted on Oct 14, 2026. Children under 4 are free with an adult.

Buy at the ticket booth on the day. Dole takes no reservations and sells no advance tickets, and ticket sales end 30 minutes before closing (Dole FAQ). The one exception is the Pineapple Express Shaka Pass, $25 and sold online only, which gives priority boarding and a front-cab seat on the train, with a 10 percent cancellation fee and no refund inside 24 hours (Dole booking page). That is $10 over the adult train fare, so it only pays if the regular line looks long. Dole is not part of the Go Oahu Card.

For two adults and two children aged 4 to 12, our math from Dole’s prices is $104 for all three attractions or $55.70 for the train alone. Dole says the train and garden are wheelchair accessible, the maze has gravel paths that may be hard to manage, and it has no wheelchairs to lend (Dole FAQ).

The Train, the Maze and the Garden Tour

Pineapple Express train. A two-mile, fully narrated ride of about 20 minutes through the plantation’s fields, with the story of James Dole and views toward the North Shore (Dole). If you buy one ticket, make it this one.

Pineapple Garden Maze. Dole says it covers three acres, with nearly two and a half miles of paths and eight secret stations to find. The average solve takes about 40 minutes (Dole). Dole also says the 2008 Guinness World Records named it the world’s largest maze (Dole), and the Honolulu Advertiser reported that year that the maze had recaptured the title (2008 report). We cannot say whether the record still stands.

Plantation Garden Tour. A self-guided walk through eight small gardens with an audio tour on Dole’s free app (Dole). Dole puts it at about an hour. It is the easiest of the three to skip.

Dole Plantation Hours and Holiday Changes

Dole’s home page says it is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (Dole). One ticket page says activities end at 5:00 p.m., and ticket sales stop 30 minutes before closing, so reach the booth by 4:30 p.m. Dole’s special-hours file lists these changes and marks the schedule subject to change. The phone is 808-621-8408.

Getting to Dole Plantation From Waikīkī and the North Shore

Dole’s directions: take H-1 west, switch to H-2 north (Exit 8A), take Exit 8 to Wahiawa and continue on Kamehameha Highway (Route 99) to 64-1550 Kamehameha Highway. Dole calls that about a 40-minute drive from Waikīkī (Dole directions). Our routing check came to about 46 minutes and 28 miles without traffic. Going the other way, Haleiwa Town is about 13 minutes and 7 miles from the plantation by the same check. Dole’s pages do not publish parking details and we have not confirmed a fee, so call ahead if it matters to you. Renting a car on Oahu covers the car side.

By bus, TheBus Route 52 (Honolulu to Haleiwa) stops at Kamehameha Hwy + Dole & Helemano Plantations. From Kona Street in Honolulu the scheduled ride is about 70 to 75 minutes, and Waikīkī to Kona Street is a separate ride (TheBus schedule, valid through Dec 5, 2026). Our circle island tour guide covers tours that stop here.

How Long to Allow

Dole says a visit runs from an hour to a full day, depending on what you buy, and suggests at least an hour for the train plus the pineapple-cutting demonstration (Dole FAQ). Using its own times, all three attractions come to about two hours before queues, the store and a Dole Whip. A Viator shuttle to Dole and Haleiwa Town schedules two hours at the plantation.

6

Dole Whip and Lunch

Dole Whip is sold in the plantation’s country store, and the store has no admission charge (Dole FAQ). Dole’s menu, a PDF dated February 2025, lists a regular Dole Whip cone or cup at $7.95, a waffle cone at $8.95 and a pineapple float at $10.95 (menu). Plate lunches run $18.95 to $19.95 and sandwich combos $17.95 on the same menu, which Dole says is subject to change without notice (Plantation Grille).

Is Dole Plantation Worth It? Who Should Skip It

Our read, from Dole’s prices and times rather than a visit: it is a stop, not a day. The grounds are free and the sums are small, $15 for the train or $28 for everything. The price that matters is time: about 40 minutes each way from Waikīkī, and at least an hour once you arrive.

If you want a full attraction day rather than a stop, compare Kualoa Ranch tours first. Our things to do in Oahu guide sorts the rest of the island by region.

  • Go if: you are driving to the North Shore anyway. Dole sits on the road, and Haleiwa Town is 13 minutes beyond it by our routing check.
  • Go if: you have children old enough for a maze, or young enough that a 20-minute train ride is an event. Children under 4 are free.
  • Skip it if: you have one free day and would rather spend it on the coast. About 40 minutes each way buys an hour or two of attractions.
  • Skip it if: you want a quiet farm visit. Dole counts more than a million visitors a year.
  • Skip it if: the morning is wet. The train, maze and garden are all outdoors, so swap in something from our rainy day guide.

What to Combine With Dole Plantation

Dole opens at 9:30 a.m., so it works as the first stop of a North Shore day, which is also the order the Viator shuttle uses. From there, Haleiwa Town is the obvious next stop, and our North Shore food trucks guide covers lunch. For a free farm stop close by, Green World Coffee Farm in Wahiawa offers free farm tours and coffee, tea and chocolate samples daily, and is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (its FAQ). It is about a mile from Dole by our routing check.

Shark cage tours leave from Haleiwa Boat Harbor (shark diving on Oahu). Check North Shore weather by month before you commit the afternoon to the coast, and see beaches by season for the month. The North Shore Oahu guide lists the rest.
