The 30-second verdict

Roy’s is the Ko Olina dinner for Hawaii fusion classics, but dinner entrées mostly run $62 to $84. Time it: Aloha Hour from 2 to 5 p.m. or the $59 Twilight Prix Fixe from 5 to 6 gets the same kitchen, including the butterfish, for much less.

Known for

Misoyaki butterfish

Miso-marinated butterfish with forbidden black rice and sweet ginger wasabi sauce, $73 at dinner. It is on every menu, including the Twilight Prix Fixe. The runner-up is the chocolate soufflé ($19), which takes about 25 minutes, so order it early.

02

What to Order

From the menus checked September 27, 2026: the misoyaki butterfish ($73, or $39 as an appetizer); Roy’s Classic Dim Sum for Two ($45), with spicy ahi maki, blackened ahi, Mongolian ribs and Chinatown chicken spring rolls; Hawaii Kai style crispy crab cakes ($33); Roy’s original blackened island ahi ($77 as an entrée); and the macadamia nut crusted fish of the day ($64). Finish with the chocolate soufflé. For a bigger night, the four-course Kai to ʻĀina Prix Fixe is $110. The vegan cauliflower steak is $31.

03

The Room and the Bridge Bar

Roy’s opened here in 2004. The main dining room seats 160, and the Bridge Bar patio (80 seats) looks over the 18th hole. Live music plays on the Bridge Bar lanai every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 6 to 9 p.m.; ask for the lanai when you book. Private rooms seat 10, 20 and 50. It is one of Roy Yamaguchi’s own Hawaii restaurants, which he kept when the mainland chain was sold in 2014.

Could be better

Dinner costs a lot. Most entrées on the current menu are $62 to $84, and the 16-ounce ribeye with garlic shrimp is $107. The fix is timing: Aloha Hour or the Twilight Prix Fixe gets the same kitchen for less.

07

Consider Instead

  • Mina’s Fish House is the choice for seafood with your feet in the sand: its decks step down to tables on the lagoon beach, and the 4 to 5 p.m. pau hana brings $3 oysters with a featured Champagne bottle.
  • ʻAMAʻAMA suits a set-menu night on the beach: $140 buys four courses in an open-air room facing the lagoon, nearly all gluten-free with a plant-based version of every course, Wednesday to Sunday.
  • Monkeypod Kitchen is the casual pick for families and walk-ins: open daily 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., with wood-oven pizza, a keiki menu from $9 and live music three times a day.
