Quick Answer
Secret Island is Kualoa Ranch’s beach on Kāneʻohe Bay, and the way in is a ranch ticket. The ranch’s own listing calls it a private beach day. The half day (about 3 hours, morning or afternoon) is $59.95 for adults and $39.95 for children. The full day, 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a box lunch, is $119.95 and $74.95. What Secret Island Is, and What It Is Not
Secret Island is the name Kualoa Ranch gives its beach on Kāneʻohe Bay. The ranch describes a “secluded beach retreat” with views of the Koʻolau mountains and Mokoliʻi (Kualoa Ranch), and its listing text says “private beach day.” The ranch sells it as a ticketed activity and publishes no public access. It is not one of the public beaches that searches for a “secret beach on Oahu” usually mean.
It is also not Kualoa Regional Park. The park is City land at 49-479 Kamehameha Highway and includes the islet Mokoliʻi (City Parks and Recreation); the ranch’s address is 49-560. Our Kualoa Ranch tours guide compares every ranch activity, so this page covers only the beach.
One more link between the two: the ranch’s Ocean Voyage crosses Moliʻi Fishpond and, in the ranch’s words, “you’ll arrive at ‘Secret Island’ where you will board our catamaran” for a tour of the bay (Kualoa Ranch). The island is that tour’s boarding point, and the ranch’s Half Day Package, which includes the Voyage, lists no beach time (Kualoa Ranch). On the pages we checked, beach time is its own ticket.
Times, Prices and What Is Included
The ranch sells three options, and the prices below are its own (Kualoa Ranch, half-day ticket page, full-day ticket page).
| Option | Hours | Adult | Child | Included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Half day, morning | 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. | $59.95 | $39.95 | Equipment and beach games |
| Half day, afternoon | 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. | $59.95 | $39.95 | Equipment and beach games |
| Full day | 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. | $119.95 | $74.95 | Box lunch, bottle of water, equipment and games |
Rates are per person and exclude 4.712% tax. Towels and, on the half day, food are not included. To book, use the ranch’s website or call (808) 237-7321; it recommends booking ahead because availability is limited. For a direct booking, a full refund needs a call at least 48 hours before the scheduled time. The ranch says tours generally run in rain, but it may cancel for high winds or lightning and refund the cancelled portion (Kualoa Ranch FAQ).
Viator also lists the half day, in the card below. Its price runs a few dollars above the ranch’s own, and its booking terms are Viator’s.

What You Can Do on the Beach
The ranch lists kayaking and paddleboarding, volleyball and other games, and hammocks under the palms (Kualoa Ranch). Its ticket pages add table tennis and horseshoes, and the full-day page adds cornhole and canoes. Equipment is first come, first served. The ranch also says guests “may” get to join short guided extras, such as canoe paddling, a Moliʻi Fishpond stop or a boat ride into the bay, subject to availability, so do not book for them. Showers and changing rooms are on the beach. There is no electricity there, so charge your phone first.
- Bring: reef-safe sunscreen, swimsuit, towel, water shoes, sunglasses and a camera.
- Food and drink: coolers are fine, glass bottles are not, and the ranch prefers cans. Alcohol is banned on ranch property.
- Ages: the ranch calls it suitable for all ages and lists it among its infant-friendly activities. Anyone 17 and under needs an adult with them.
- Service animals: allowed on a leash.
How to Get There
Everything starts at the ranch, 49-560 Kamehameha Highway in Kāneʻohe, about 45 minutes from Waikīkī by the ranch’s own estimate. Its directions: H-1 west to the Likelike Highway (Route 63) and through the Wilson Tunnel, then Kahekili Highway (Route 83) north, which becomes Kamehameha Highway at Kahāluʻu. The entrance is on the left, past Mokoliʻi (Kualoa Ranch directions).
The ranch’s Secret Island page says the trip to the beach runs through its own landscape, and it does not spell out the steps. Ask for your check-in time and meeting point when you book. Our east side Oahu drive covers the road from Waikīkī.
The ranch runs a Waikīkī shuttle for $30 a person plus tax, round trip, added when you book if your ticket is compatible. Morning and mid-morning pickups are at Aqua Palms, Twin Fin and the Sheraton Waikīkī (Aloha Landing), and early pickups also run from Hotel La Croix, White Sands and Prince Waikīkī. Pickup details come in your confirmation email (Kualoa Ranch FAQ).

The Windward side is easier with a car

Who Secret Island Suits
The ranch pitches it to families, couples and groups, and describes it as a few hours of beach time rather than an itinerary. That fits families with young children who want gear and a shower on site, and groups that want to split between a kayak and a hammock. A half day pairs with a ranch tour on another date, as the ranch tours guide lays out.
Skip it if you want a free beach, a no-reservation afternoon or a swim under a posted lifeguard. The ranch pages do not mention lifeguards or life jackets, so ask when you book. State rules require children under 13 on any vessel, kayaks included, to wear a life jacket (HAR 13-243-1). The public beaches below cost nothing and are easier to reach on a whim.
Public Beaches Nearby That Cost Nothing
Honolulu Ocean Safety staffs its towers from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily (tower list). For a beach day on this coast without a ticket, Kualoa Regional Park is the closest match: it faces the same bay and the same view of Mokoliʻi. Kailua Beach Park has the most services, and Lanikai Beach needs a plan for parking. Each guide has the rules and the hours. For the rest of the island, see our things to do in Oahu hub.
| Beach | Lifeguard | Know first |
|---|---|---|
| Kualoa Regional Park | Tower 9 | City park beside the ranch; includes Mokoliʻi; camping on site |
| Kailua Beach Park | Towers 8 and 8B | Three City lots; the park is closed midnight to 4 a.m. |
| Lanikai Beach | None | Public paths only: no public parking lots, restrooms or showers |
| Kāneʻohe Sandbar | None | Boat or kayak only; commercial trips skip Sundays and federal holidays |
| Kahana Bay Beach Park | None listed | State park with restrooms, showers and campsites |
