The 30-second verdict
Little Plumeria Farms shows plumeria the way growers see it, on 20 acres of hybrids bred by one family since 1973. Book the Farm Tour for the garden and the views, or the Sunset Lei Making Tour to string your own lei. The catch is the calendar: tours run only April 1 to October 31.

Known for
The Sunset Lei Making Tour
Pick your own blossoms in the lei flower area and string them with the farm’s guides as the light goes gold over the North Shore. It is $90 per person, three evenings a week in season.
Fifty Years of JL Hybrids
Jim Little started growing plumeria as a hobby in 1973. Bill Moragne, a pioneer of plumeria hybridizing, taught him to cross-pollinate the flowers, and hundreds of hybrids followed, each carrying his initials: JL Doric, named for his wife, or JL Metallica, a purple and silver bloom that his son Clark says smells a bit like grape.
Jim, Clark (the shorebreak photographer) and Clark’s son Dane opened the farm to visitors on Lei Day, May 1, 2023, its 50th year. Within a year, USA TODAY’s 10Best readers named it the best new attraction in America.

What the Tour Is Like
Check in 15 minutes early at the yellow gate at the end of Kawailoa Drive, then drive up the private road to the farm. The Farm Tour is a partly guided group walk through the Rare Hybrid Plumeria Garden and the nursery, then free time among the blooming trees, with Mount Kaʻala on one side and the North Shore coastline on the other. You pick flowers in designated areas, and every tour ends at the gift shop. The lei making tours add a lesson, and you string your own lei to take home.

Which Tour to Book
The Farm Tour suits families and first visits: one hour, $50 for ages 13 and up and $30 for ages 3 to 12, with about 20% off for kamaʻāina, seniors 65 and older and military. It runs Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings.
The Sunset Lei Making Tour is $90 per person with no discounts, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, about 1 hour 15 minutes. The start time follows the sun (5:15 p.m. in October 2026), and full dates take a waitlist.
The Day Lei Making Tour is $75 per person, Fridays at 10 a.m. It has the fewest dates of the three.
The Gift Shop and the Off Season
The shop sells fresh plumeria lei, seeds, cuttings, art prints, apparel and Jim Little’s book, Growing Plumerias in Hawaiʻi and Around the World. Between November and March there are no tours, but the farm sells gift cards for next season and ships unrooted cuttings by mail; email the cultivar names you want for a quote.
Getting There and Parking
Set your GPS for 62 Kawailoa Drive, Haleiwa, or the Kawailoa Transfer Station, and reach it from Joseph P. Leong Highway, not Cane Haul Road. Keep straight past the transfer station to the yellow gate. There is no shuttle; you park at the farm. From Waikiki it is about 37 miles, roughly 70 minutes without traffic, so read whether you need a car on Oahu.

Make a North Shore Day of It
Haleiwa town is about 3 miles away. Pair a morning tour with the rest of the North Shore and North Shore coffee, and plan the drive with our scenic drive map or the Oahu road trip.

Good to know
Tours run only April 1 to October 31, while the trees bloom, and the farm had not posted 2027 dates when we checked. For a November to March trip, a gift card or mail-order cuttings is the way in.
Tips Before You Visit Little Plumeria Farms

- Arrive 15 minutes early. If the yellow gate is closed, pull aside without blocking the shared road; staff will come down.
- Dress for the field. Covered shoes, a hat, sunscreen and water; shade is scarce.
- Keep your flowers fresh. Honolulu Magazine suggests a spray bottle or small cooler for the drive back.
- Trying for today? Text (808) 367-4119 for same-day openings; cancel 48 hours out for a full refund.
